German company that manufactures high end hi-fi separates and loudspeakers in addition to audio accessories and kits . The company was founded in January 2006 by the husband an wife team of Gabriele & Holger Stein and is registered in the UK although it operates from Germany. Note that the company often writes its name as one word but it is always two in official documentation and some newer products are branded as just "Stein".
Holger Stein started offering audio kits around 1990 under the HiFi-Studio Holger Stein name, nota bene not to be confused with the now defunct "HiFi Studio Stein GmbH" that was run by Manfred Stein of Quad Musikwidergabe fame that was active in a similar timeframe and by chance was based in nearby Koblenz. Hr. Stein gained some note in central Europe for amplifier kits called simply Steinmusic Stereo Hybridendstufe that feature an output section that uses a hybrid valve and transistor stage and got some positive reviews in the audio press. By the latter half of the 90's the company was still primarily a provider of kits although they had some fully built products and accessories in their catalogue, but were best known as a provider of CD and DAC kits and parts although amplifier products were still being made. By this time they traded as Stein Hifi Systems and had started to use the Steinmusic brand (then always used as one word).
In 2005 the Stein's started to place greater emphasis on fully built audio products, a new company was founded around the operation and a new brand was started that called Audiofino that is now used for selling the kits and parts the company offers. Please note that some of their accessories are only sold on the Audiofino site and the company no longer offers kits in the traditional sense but rather unfinished products such as DAC boards that require power supply and housing. Distribution: In Japan by Askom, in North America by Fidelis A/V and in South Korea by Sonoris High End Audio & Video Homepage:http://www.steinmusic.de -- Audiofino homepage Resources:An interview with Holger Stein on the Durob Audio blog -- A Youtube video partly explaining their intriguing harmonisers. -- Stein Music factory visit brought to you by The Stereo Times.
