Denki Onkyo Co. LTD.
Large Japanese manufacturer that is best known in the West as a manufacturer of AV and hi-fi separates but is actually Japans largest OEM loudspeaker manufacturer and in fact the world’s largest loudspeaker manufacturer period. The company usually trades under the Onkyo brand but also has a separately run division called Integra Research that manufactures high end AV and hi-fi electronics and shares their distribution network for the most part but product development is partly individual and in co-operation with a couple of USA high end companies, the company also has a line of ultra high end loudspekers designed by Hiroyuki Yoshii that are not distributed outside of Japan. Has a huge presence in the US but is less well known in Europe, had no distribution in the UK until 2005 for instance although they have been opening up new divisions there recently. Started manufacturing loudspeaker drivers in the late 1940's, marketed semi professional Reel to Reel recorders in the west under the Dokorder name in the 60's/early 70's (Some hi-fi was also exported under that name but low key) but is now firmly in the consumer market.

Denon
A Japanese manufacturer that curiously enough is best known in the west for their consumer audio and home theatre products but is better known in Asia as a supplier of professional audio products especially in the broadcast sector. Denon USA also acts as the NA distributor for Mission and Denon Japan acts as the distributor for Dali, ARCAM, Infinity and Kimber Kable. Notable for selling the worlds first digital audio recorders and later the first hard disk recorder. Originally founded in 1938 as Nihon Denki Onkyo but soon became better known by the shortened form, but "Den-on" can mean "electric sound" in Japanese. The company was taken over by Nippon Columbia in 1963 and Denon absorbed what used to be the hardware arm of that company, it's for that reason that Denon still releases consumer electronics using the Columbia brand in Japan. Later became a part of the Hitachi group and likewise absorbed some of the audio product lines of that company, was re-established as a fully independent entry in 2001 but merged with Marantz in 2002 to form D+M Group but R&D and marketing remains separate from the mother company even though some manufacturing factilities are shared.
