L. Bösendorfer Klavierfabrik GmbH Austrian manufacturer of high end pianos sold under the Bösendorfer name, originally founded in the 1790's in Vienna by Prussian master craftsman Joseph Brodmann, when he retired in 1828 it was taken over by his apprentice Ignaz Bösendorfer and renamed after him. Bought by Kimball in 1966 and sold to investors in 2002 when Kimball exited the music business.
The company entered the loudspeaker business just after 2000 under the Bösendorfer Audio name and with high end designs by Hans Deutsch Akustikforschung that were quite successful, but the changes at the company brought on by the ownership change also meant managerial issues and in the end some of the staff left to found Joseph Brodmann Piano. Taken over by Yamaha Corp. in 2007 who replaced much of the original board of the company and placed Brian Kemble as a managing director (he of the Kemble Piano family), but Yamaha was only interested in the piano side of the company and the loudspeaker line was discontinued. Brodmann Acoustics has now taken over the manufacture of the designs that Bösendorfer was manufacturing.
