ERS Útgáfan Tiny Icelandic label that has put out a CD with "Icelandic lieder", there is no tradition of lieder in Iceland BTW, the practise of taking traditional and original Icelandic songs and arranging them in 19th century lieder style can be blamed on the Icelandic State Broadcasting Corp. (Ríkisútvarpið), to fulfil it's obligation of bringing both "high" and "national" culture to the proles this format was simply the cheapest to record, you only needed to pay a singer and a pianist and thus became the mainstay of native classical music broadcasting there especially in the 50's to the early 80's. And appropriately enough the CD in question was recorded by the afforemented Icelandic State Br. etc..... -- Official homepage Formats supported : CD.
