Hungaroton Records Hungarian label founded in 1951 as MHV and originally put out classical music and traditional Hungarian music and other "state approved" forms of music, gained notoriety in the west during the 60's with a series of excellent classical recordings and changed it's name to Hungaroton in 1969 and was noticeably the first eastern European company to manufacture compact disks. Today Hungaroton is an independent company that publishes both classical music and popular music by local artists, does or has in the past published under labels such as Echo which is used for the re-releases of the classical back catalogue, while Bravo, Favorite, Cream, Gong and others have been used for their pop recordings, Hungarian Pop Story is however used for the re-releases of the popular music back catalogue, and although no longer used, the Qualiton and Profi brands where used for some of their pop output.
